Simon Parmenter MIBS AMPS
Sound Mixer
In 2003 I spent 5 months in Maine USA as sole Unit 1 sound mixer on Colonial House, an 8 part series of 1 hour programmes charting the lives of up to 25 people living as if they were in the year 1628. The whole project was shot as actuality with one Digibeta crew primarily, some 2nd unit filming for big events. It aired in May 2004 on PBS in the States and was nominated for an Emmy. It aired on Channel 4 in the spring 2005 re-titled Pioneer House and recut to 6 episodes.
I joined the BBC in 1979 after gaining a B.A. in Architecture and deciding that to preserve the architectural heritage of the country the best thing was for me to leave the industry!
By 1983 I had gained a reputation as a drama boom operator in the studios and had acquired considerable experience at Outside Broadcasts when the opportunity arose to join a new PSC operation as a Sound Recordist.
I spent the next 9 years doing this until in 1992 I saw the opportunity to go freelance.
Recently I have spent 7 months filming an 8 part series for the BBC with a company in Coventry, entirely shot actuality and following their progress & advancements. This is currently being transmitted on BBC 2 on Wednesday evenings.
